My current body of work continues my exploration of interrelated systems at work in nature, by defining each object, through its relation to the world around it.
Much of my work is based on every day imagery which I use as a starting point for manipulation and abstraction. In order to capture the beauty, life, and richness of the subjects, I apply a good amount of paint on canvas in spontaneous and freestyle brush strokes.
Looking past the obvious, careful examination and engagement helps bring out the composition, I am happy with. The challenge is to see beyond the surface, and define each object's purpose in the composition. Some of my subjects are more beautiful on the surface than others. My intent is to inspire the viewer to look more carefully at the world around them, to discover beauty in unusual places.
“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”
